The FIFA women’s world rankings for the month of July have been released. The indomitable lionesses of Cameroon with their performance in the last world cup have improved in the rankings, moving up by 5 places.
These rankings were greatly influenced by the just ended FIFA women’s world cup in France. Three African teams Cameroon, South Africa and Nigeria took part in the tournament. After the group stages, Cameroon and Nigeria fought their ways through to the round of 16 where they were unfortunately eliminated. South Africa on the other hand fell at the group stages of the competition.
In the present rankings, Nigeria with their performance in the world cup have moved two places up and are now ranked 36th globally while Cameroon who also gave us a brilliant performance at the world cup are now 41st best female team in the world; moving up by 5 places. The Bayana Bayanas of South Africa who didn’t do so well at the world cup have maintained their previously held 49th position while the Black Queens of Ghana who couldn’t qualify for the world cup have dropped by two places and are now ranked 53rd.
The USA retain their prestigious position as best female team in the world after winning the 2019 edition of the female world cup. They are followed by Germany (2), Netherlands (3), France (4), England (5), Sweden (6), Canada (7), Australia (8), North Korea (9) and Brazil (10).
In Africa, the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon are ranked 2nd, coming after African Champions the Super Falcons of Nigeria who top the list. Vice champions, the Bayana Bayanas of South Africa are 3rd, followed by the Black Queens of Ghana and the female elephants of Ivory Coast on the 4th and 5th positions respectively. The next FIFA women’s rankings are expected in the month of September.
