AFCON Defending Champions, Cameroon Start Off Their Campaign With An Amazing 2 – 0 Win Against Guinea-Bissau.

Cameroon indomitable lions have begun a brilliant AFCON campaign after beating Guinea-Bissau by 2 goals to 0 in Ismailia today June 25, 2019.

The defending champions got off to a difficult start as their opponents Guinea-Bissau proved not to be as weak as they are on paper. Cameroon dominated the first 45 minutes but couldn’t get the goals. The lions made several attempts to get an opener but their efforts were frustrated by the defensive works of a determined Guinean side.

At the end of the first 45 minutes, the indomitable lions left the pitch with their heads held high with a 60% ball possession as against 40% for Guniea-Bissau. However their seven shots couldn’t find the back of the net.

The next 45 minutes brought even more pressure on both sides as they each struggled to get the long awaited goal. Well, the gods of football were with Cameroon as they finally got that opener at the 66th minute when Yaya Banana headed in a well taken corner, opening scores for Cameroon.

It only got better 3 minutes later when Coach Seedorf decision to bring in Stephane Bahoken for Sutchuin Djoum paid off. Bahoken brilliantly netted in Cameroon’s second and last goal at the 69th minute doubling Cameroon’s lead.

Guinea-Bissau made a few attempts to equalize but failed to break through Cameroon’s defense. It has all ended happily for the lions at Ismailia and they have kept the record; remaining unbeaten in their last seven AFCON matches.  Cameroon has also remained unbeaten in all 3 previous encounters against Guinea-Bissau and they have just extended that run tonight with their 2 – 0 win.

Coach Clarence Seedorf and Goalkeeper Andre Onana must be super elated after winning their first ever AFCON match.

Cameroon’s next match comes up on Saturday May 29 against the Black Stars of Ghana. Cameroon would be hoping to pick up all three points against Ghana in order to stretch their unbeaten run. The Black stars on the other hand would be hoping to revenge their 2 – 0 defeat to   Cameroon in 2017 at the semifinals of the competition.
