Liberia is a West African country bordered by Sierra Leone, Guinea and Ivory Coast. Liberia alongside Ethiopia were the two African countries which were never colonized during the scramble for Africa. The 25th president of Liberia George Weah who was recently appointed the president of Liberia, promised to make education in Liberia free during his campaign and he actually kept to his promise after he got sworn in as president.
The president during his visit to the University of Liberia, announced that the University of Liberia as well as all other public universities in the country will be tuition free. This means no cost at all for students pursuing their undergraduate studies in a public university in Liberia. He also announced the wonderful news on his Facebook page which definitely brought joy to many students and parents who found it difficult to pay their children’s fee to continue school after high school.
The day he made that announcement has gone down history as one of the best days in the country. This news is good news not only to the citizens of Liberia but to the whole of Africa. Weah’s action should be an example to other upcoming presidents and politicians who, when they make promises during a campaign, they should try as much as possible to keep them so that people will start trusting and looking up to them. I for one think all politicians are liars which should not be the case.
